Meant for Me by LP Dover

MeantForMe_TourBanner

Synopsis

After a night of raw passion with the man Claire O’Briene had been secretly admiring for years, she thought their time together had come once and for all. Fate had finally brought them back to each other, but unfortunately nothing had changed. He was still the same man who ran away from relationships. Against his better judgment, Mason Bradley gave in to the temptation and allowed himself one night with the one woman he’d been too afraid to want … too afraid to need.

Six months after leaving Claire and regretting every minute of it, Mason gets called in for an undercover mission that’s not only dangerous, but brings back a past he spent years trying to forget. A past of fighting … of getting in the ring and using his fists to get what he wanted: money, women, and drugs. Now there are fighters turning up dead, and it’s Mason’s job to find out the truth.

Knowing he might not come out of the mission alive, Mason seeks out Claire to tell her how he truly feels, only to find another man competing for her love as well. Fighting is what he’s good at, and for once he will be fighting not only for justice … but for love.

Excerpt

The door to the arena room was open, and the moment we stepped in Claire gasped and I stared, wide-eyed at all the people. "Holy shit," I breathed in awe. "It's packed."

Every single chair around the cage was occupied and there were people standing around everywhere. There were two guys already in the cage battling it out, except they looked to be part of the Lightweight division. When I fought several years ago, I was competing for the Heavyweight title. If they did fights in order of division then I would be going up there last."Hey, guys," Tyler exclaimed, carrying a beer in his hands.

Disapprovingly, I glared at the beer and then back up to him. "You should know better than to get drunk before a fight. It makes you sloppy," I scolded him.

I really didn't care either way what he did, but I knew better than to drink when I had to compete. Tyler chugged his beer and threw his cup in the trash a little too roughly.

"I do know better than to drink when I have to fight, but unfortunately, I'm not fighting tonight," he announced.

"Wait, what?" Claire cut in. "What do you mean you're not fighting? If you're not the one fighting Mason then who is?"

Tyler glanced around the room with narrowed eyes until he found the person I was to fight and pointed to him. "That's the guy over there with the blue mohawk. I think you might know him. He said he owed you for something you did a long time ago. Care to explain," Tyler inquired curiously.

Following the direction of Ty's pointed finger, I groaned when I saw the guy with the blue mohawk. Fuck, I knew who he was, or better yet, I knew his wife ... very well.

"What is it Mason?" Claire asked worriedly. "Who is he?"

His name was Chase Benfield and I did the unthinkable by fucking his wife. Blowing out a frustrated breath, I lowered my head and began to explain, "Do you remember when I mentioned I had a dark past?"

"Yeah," she said, drawling out the word. "Let me guess, you fought him back in the day?"

I nodded. "Yes, but that wasn't just it." I didn't want to tell her what I did because I was ashamed of the way I acted and the way I did things. I was sure she would understand, hopefully, but I didn't want her thinking less of me.

Claire let go of my hand and crossed her arms over her chest defiantly. "Dammit, just tell me already. You did this same shit to me when I was keeping something from you."

"Fine," I gave in, "but I need you to know it was a long time ago and it was before I even met you. I was stupid and did lots of stupid things that I shouldn't have."

She rolled her eyes. "Let me guess, you slept with his girlfriend," she guessed blandly.

Sighing, I regretfully nodded my head and waited for the angry words to come spewing out of her mouth. Instead, she said, "So, what's the big deal? You slept with her. That shit happens all the time. Why would he be angry about that still?"

"Well," I began, "it was actually his wife and I hooked up with her in my prepping room during his fight for a spot at the Heavyweight title. His trainer had come looking for her and found us. Needless to say, word got back to Chase awfully fast."

Claire groaned and hung her head. "Oh, hell, this isn't going to be good."
Chase finally spotted me from across the room and snarled his lip. No, I thought to myself, this definitely wasn't going to be good.

Following a lifelong passion for reading and writing, I am finally writing my first novel, Into The Deep. Wife to a wonderful husband and mother to three amazing and tiring kids. I have been married since 2002 to my best friend and he still makes me laugh….but yes I still want to strangle him sometimes! I am an avid reader, I think there is nothing better than getting curled up in my reading chair with my kindle. To give me a valid excuse for reading so much I also blog with Books, Coffee and Wine. My other passion is music, I have very varied tastes so one minute I can be listening to Hinder and the next I will be listening to Cyndi Lauper. I also love horror movies, the scarier the better…..I will read romance but I just can't do chick flicks!
I live in Scotland, in a small village in the middle of nowhere so reading lets me travel the world, the only way a mother can.  I would love to actually travel the world but I’m not the best at traveling. Flying scares me and boats are a no no…..so I don't go away very often.
I have so many friends who I have met on this amazing journey and they have helped me so much, keeping me right so I don't make any major mistakes and I truly love them for being there.

My Book Week

I've decided I was going to start doing a regular post on here about what I'm reading.  I read a lot.  Probably more than I should.  But if I'm not working or writing I'm probably reading.  Sometimes I'm busier than others but I read at least one book a week.  Usually I read more than that.  So...I thought it would be fun to share with you all what I've been reading.

I'm going to be honest...I don't really enjoy writing reviews.  I always feel like I'm rambling, and I never really know what to write.

My reading taste are pretty diverse but I will warn  you lately I've been on a New Adult and Contemporary Romance kick. :)

This week I read:

Pieces of You (Shattered Hearts 2) by Cassia Leo

I read the first book in the Shatter Hearts Series, Relentless, sometime before Christmas.  I likes it and the story intrigued me so when I saw this book and the third were on sale I just had to spend some Amazon dollars to get them.

I wasn't disappointed.

You can check this book out on Amazon.

Bring Me Home (Shattered Hearts 3) by Cassia Leo

I thought this was an amazing conclusion to Chris, Claire and Adam's story.  I'm actually looking forward to the spin off from this series.

Find out more on Amazon.

Needing Her by Molly McAdams

I find myself reading everything by Molly McAdams since I read Taking Chances and she threw me for a loop.  This is a novella.  It includes a character from From Ashes.  I liked it.  It was a quick read and a sweet story.

Find out more on Amazon.

That's all for now.  I'll be back next week with more books I've read.

Excerpt :
He stepped off the elevator behind her and followed her silently as she led the way down the long dark hall to her office. She unlocked the door and walked in without turning on a light. Wade stood leaning his shoulder against the doorjamb, watching as she fumbled around in her desk drawers for only a few seconds before she retrieved the phone. A loose grin formed on her lips as she held the phone in her hand and when she looked up at him he projected a similar smile back.
Something happened when their eyes met through the dark in the place where she had hired him, the place where he had touched her arm and assured her she was the boss. Sabrina’s face fell, her tongue swiped over her bottom lip, sucking it into her mouth for a moment before letting it pop back out. Wade couldn’t breathe. Sabra.
Her brows drew together as she stepped toward him. Wade could see her breathing picking up, shamelessly glancing at her chest. He heard himself swallow hard when she finally reached him. She looked up at him and pressed her lips together again. She’s your BOSS, his head screamed.
Sabrina’s hand moved out in front of her and Wade barely flinched at the motion. Her fingertips landed on his chest and he wanted nothing more than to sigh at the feeling, but he tried to stay cool. She was staring at his chest and her own hand as it slid down the panel of buttons on his shirt. When her hand stopped at the waistband of his black slacks, he couldn’t hold in the trembling breath that made its way out of him. Her eyes flashed up to his again. Fuck it, it’s just a job, he thought. Just as he reached to slip his hand to the back of her neck and pull her close, her cell phone blared through the office. She jumped and looked down at it in her other hand. When she looked at him she sighed with that same unnamable look in her eyes.
                “It’s late,” he said.
Sabrina nodded. “And I’m drunk,” she added with a crestfallen smile.
                “Right,” Wade uttered.

Author Spotlight: Mara Valderran

Author Mara Valderran is stopping by today with an excerpt from her novel Heirs of War...

Seventeen-year-old Zelene doesn't believe in magic or prophecies. When she's told she is part of the prophecy foretelling five powerful girls bringing peace to the war-torn worlds, she scoffs. The idea of other dimensions layered on top of the world she lives in is almost as ludicrous as the idea that she might be able to save them. After she is attacked by magic-wielding assassins, she finds she can't argue with reality.

As their enemies strike, the girls are taken back to their world and discover the ties binding them together. Rhaya has always had an uncanny knack for reading people, but can’t seem to unravel the mystery tying her to Isauria, the new friend she bonded with instantly. For years, Isauria has been dreaming of Terrena, a girl living her life on the run in a magical world ripped apart by the tragedies of war, completely unaware that she is psychically linked to the world she was born in.

Zelene views them all with a distrustful eye, familial bonds or no, and can think of a place or two she’d like to shove the crown she supposedly inherited. When she learns that her long-lost twin Ariana has been captured by the rebels, Zelene’s attitude changes. She doesn’t know how she is supposed to go against an army of magic-wielding rebels when her own ability to manipulate the elements is still locked within her. But can she trust the elders to rescue Ariana when it seems their medieval politics are what brought about the war in the first place? With all that is at stake, the answer becomes clear to Zelene.

Screw the worlds. She’s getting her sister back.

Excerpt:

Rhaya's thin eyebrow arched as she studied the ring of trees they were standing in. They were incredibly large trees with branches that seemed to arch over them to form a canopy overhead, leaving very little sunlight to peek through the gaps in the leaf roof above them. But she still couldn't understand the significance of this place. They had run as fast as they could to Liam's awaiting car, and then they had driven for what felt like an eternity though in reality it had only been about an hour or so.
And now, after all the running, committing multiple traffic violations, and maybe even bending the laws of physics as she knew them, they were simply standing there. Isauria still assaulted her father with questions as they walked, but he refused to answer, his brows drawn down in a stubborn line matching his crossed arms as they rested over his chest. Raemann wasn't proving to be any more forthcoming as he crossed back and forth from each side of the circle they were in the middle of.
Rhaya turned around and followed the path her father had made. He had knelt before the largest trees, using his finger to draw symbols in the sand in front of the gnarled roots. She stepped closer to inspect the first symbol he had drawn, but he quickly snatched her back.
"You don't want to be too close to the edge when it activates," Raemann warned her as the slight breeze around them picked up.
Rhaya was going ask why when she noticed the change in the atmosphere. Every inch of her skin tingled with energy around them; she felt as though whatever was happening was passing through her, yet somehow out of her reach at the same time. The air whipped her hair violently around her face, and even though she felt not all too far from Dorothy on her way to Oz, she found herself laughing.
Isauria let out a slight yelp and latched onto her hand, but Rhaya held the other one out with curiosity, turning it this way and that as the moist heat from air managed to cool her, sending a ripple of goose flesh across her skin. She sucked in a breath as the forest floor beneath them began to quiver, and suddenly Raemann was at her arm, holding her steady as their amazed grins found one another. His eyes held the same sparkle as hers: one full of wonder and adventure. The shared excitement came to an abrupt end as a bright blue light seemed to engulf them, leaving all four shielding their gaze against the luminescent glow. When she opened them again, they seemed to be standing in the same exact ring of trees as before.
"Okay," Rhaya said, still disoriented and extremely perplexed as she looked around the all too familiar setting. "That was more than a little anticlimactic. What just happened?"
"We traveled through a portal," Liam answered as he scanned the terrain surrounding them.
He directed a scowl to Raemann that held a warning Rhaya didn’t quite understand. Her own face still held confusion as she waited for him to give her something more to go on.
Noticing her expectant look, he explained, "The place we are in now—"he cut himself off as he threw a weary glance to Isauria, "is different."
Isauria gave their surroundings an exaggerated glance. "Really? Cause everything looks the same to me."
Liam placed a hand on her back, guiding her forward. "It's not, I assure you. Think of this area here as a hallway surrounded by doors. Each door is a world. The symbols we drew in the sand are the keys, unlocking the door we want to go through."
"Why five symbols?" Rhaya asked. She couldn't help but think back to her favorite space traveling archaeologist and what he might think of the symbols used. "Why not seven? Or eight?"
Raemann's face lit up, and she could tell he was eager as always to indulge her inquisitive mind. "Watch this!" He grabbed a stick from outside the ring of trees and began dragging the tip across the ground, creating lines connecting the five largest trees. "Look."
Isauria stared at the path he had created in the dirt, turning around several times to see the full picture. "You played connect the dots with the trees."
Rhaya walked into the center of the circle, and thus the lines Raemann had created. "You created a pentacle with the lines."
"Yes," he said, his grin widening to show his dimples. "There are five symbols for five points. Tell me, Isauria, do you know what the pentacle represents?"
Isauria thought this over for a moment, giving a mocking glare to Rhaya, who bit back a Hermione-like smile; almost as if she was trying to keep the inevitable correct answer trapped in her throat as she clamped her mouth tight as if the words might tumble out. "It's a Wiccan symbol or something."
"Yes," Raemann agreed. "And this symbol represents the connection between us—people—and the elements. Each point represents one of the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The fifth one," he said pointing to the top of the star he had drawn, "represents Spirit. You girls are special because you also represent an element."
"Alright, lesson over, Raemann," Liam interjected as he saw realization begin to dawn on his ward's face, quickly followed by skepticism. "We need to get moving. We have no idea how many were there, and if they suspect we left, this will be the first place they look."
“You’re going to have to explain things to her, Liam,” Raemann said in a lowered voice.
The two men locked each other with fierce stares as if they were silently battling who was right before Liam stalked off.

About the Author:

Mara Valderran has been coming up with stories pretty almost since she could talk, often commandeering her brother's G.I. Joes to play out her fictional tales alongside her Barbies. Once she hit adolescence and realized playing with dolls wasn't cool anymore, she started putting her ideas to paper. And she hasn’t stopped since.

Mara has worn many different artistic hats throughout her life. She has dabbled in screenwriting, plucked guitars and basses, toyed with singing, retired from acting, and drawn some pretty mean stick figures in her time. However, writing books seems to fit her best as she finds nothing more fulfilling than creating worlds and characters she can lose herself in.

Mara is more than just a madwoman with a writing box. She lives in the south with her husband and demanding cat. She hopes to one day meet Daniel Jackson from SG1, or at least the actor who played him. When she’s not writing, you can find her reading, playing video games, or spending time at her favorite local coffee shop.

Reckless Radiance Release Day Celebration

Today I have some fun facts from Kate Roth about her new release Reckless Radiance!  I'm pretty excited for this.  She's a close friend of mine and I've been able to see this project come together.  I know you all will love it!

Now for some fun facts!!

This book has had many different incarnations so today I want to share with you some little known facts about the book and its previous versions.
  • ·         Originally Valerie and her best friend, Paige worked as hair stylists not diner waitresses
  • ·         In the first draft, Valerie met Russell at a night club
  • ·         The initial idea for this book came from the Maroon 5 song, “Wake Up Call”
  • ·         In that first concept Russell was a vampire…yeah it was 2007, don’t judge me.
  • ·         Penny’s Pie Diner is my own way of living out my dream of owning a little pie diner.
  • ·         I intentionally don’t address the state in which Valerie lives but the two towns she lives in, Somerset and Greensburg are both names of towns not too far apart in Kentucky.
  • ·         Just like my first novel, The Low Notes, most of this book (it’s original draft, anyway) was written in a hair salon.
  • ·         Two scenes from the book have barely changed since version 1.0, Valerie’s first memory of Gabriel and the confrontation between Valerie and Henry.
  • ·         Though the story is paranormal, I drew from two real-life stories of people I know and cherish and their second chances at true love.

After the loss of her childhood love, Valerie Gilmore runs away from the life she's always known to try to start again. Between her job as a diner waitress and her toxic relationship with the first guy to help her forget her past, Valerie feels more alone than ever before until she meets Russell. He's sweet but strange and Valerie can't help but think he's hiding something. He acts as though he knows her and he seems to be looking past her broken heart, straight into her soul.

Russell has pushed aside the ancient laws of his angel brethren to find Valerie and stay as close to her as possible. He’s forced to contemplate sharing the truth about what he is after a deadly turn of events cause Valerie to run away once more. His feelings for her and a promise he made long ago help him to realize he longs to leave his life as an angel behind for a chance at love.

Reckless Radiance is available on Amazon in ebook format and paperback.

Anniversary Celebration: Lila Munro and Private Pirouette

Today I'd like to welcome Lila Munro and say Happy Anniversary to Private Pirouette!!

Private Pirouette had been sitting for about a year finished before I turned it loose and passed it into the hands of Jenn over at Rebel Ink Press. I had so many irons in the fire it had been shoved to the bottom of the pile more than once. Originally it was slated to be a series, but was ultimately released as a stand-alone. One of the reasons it was shoved to the bottom of the pile so many times was book 2 Private Impropriety wasn’t going so well and I doubted it would ever make it off the drawing board as more than an idea. Not a few days after Private Pirouette debuted, however, reader demands started coming in as to what was going to happen to the other two heroes, Chaney and Brady.
Okay, maybe there would be a book two…then again maybe not. I dragged it out and started working on it, to no avail. It still wasn’t right. Book 2 is Chaney’s story and I had him originally paired with the Jenni, one of Piper’s friends. The problem with Jenni is she’s just too much of a mess. I know right? The queen of conflict and realmantic having issues with someone with too much baggage? Never thought you’d see that one huh? While preparing the promo pack for Private Pirouette, I went through my files and guess what caught my attention? Yes, Private Impropriety hopped out at me. However, I think I’ve since found the problem—a huge one actually which will nearly require a complete and total rewrite, but one I’m willing to deal with if this story can get off the ground. It seems Chaney is better fitted to Piper’s sister Lacey—there is a scene in Private Pirouette when it seems they may hit it off, but then the nearly absent father of Lacey’s baby reappears and puts the brakes on that…I’m thinking that little pipsqueak needs to go. He’s a loser and Chaney would make a great husband and daddy…we shall see…I know this will make my readers happy to finally get their hands on book 2.
In the meantime, Private Pirouette can be yours for a mere $0.99 from Amazon September 16-18…Come watch the dance readers fell in love with and so did Alec…

Piper McGee can smell a set up a mile away. She can smell a Marine even further. Born to a dual-enlisted couple who divorced before she was old enough to remember a single family holiday together and proceeded to redefine the very definition of family through several marriages and even more step-siblings, Piper has made it her life’s promise to herself to never become involved with one of the few and the proud. They’re among the most irresponsible people she knows, leaving destruction in their wake and broken hearts paving the way to their next duty station. And in her opinion, Alec Douglas is just another example, until he pries her heart open along with other parts of her, making her question everything she's ever let herself believe about honor, courage, and commitment.

What does a man do with six month’s down time and no warm body to share his bed? For Sergeant Alec Douglas, contemplating that question led him to fall prey to his two best friend’s plan to find him that very thing. They know Alec has yet to stay with any one person for more than a few dates. They also know a tragedy from his past created the problem and while that haunts him, making it nearly impossible for Alec to trust his heart to anyone, they also know he’s a sucker for a challenge. Will the enticement of a few thousand dollars riding on him breaking his own rule be just the thing to break his cycle? Taking their bet might be profitable, but is winning the money they’ve dangled under Alec’s nose worth losing himself to the girl they’ve picked out for him?

In his quest to get her to say yes to his crazy proposal, he tracks her all over town only to discover the beautiful, long-legged blond isn’t the studious book worm he mistook her for. In fact, she's one of Jacksonville’s finest in the form of Orchid, exotic dancer. Her rejection only spurs him to make sure her dancing days are over and she only performs her private pirouette for him, and only him, for the rest of their lives if he has his way.

Please enjoy an excerpt:
With all the shades drawn in her tiny apartment, it was still relatively dark at nine when Piper left her bed.  After a quick shower, she slipped on her soft worn robe and padded into the kitchen to start her day with her usual Coke Zero and chocolate glazed donut.  Alec was lying on her couch on his back with one foot on the floor, one arm dangling beside him, and his mouth hanging open.  She wanted to make a lot of noise just to irritate him, but then had second thoughts.  As long as he slept, she could sit in the chair beside the tiny couch and stare at how good looking he was.
Too bad he was a Marine.  He was definitely someone she could grow accustomed to looking at.  In the dim light of the room, the auburn stubble running over his jaw only added to his rugged handsomeness.  She caught herself staring at his lips, trying to remember the last time she’d been kissed.  Had it been so long she couldn’t recall?  God, how she needed a life.  Just not at the expense of her goals.
She was putting her empty bottle in the recycle bin sitting near the door when she heard her guest stir and groan.  Served him right. He should be miserable.
“Oh, shit.” He moaned and rubbed his head.
“Good morning, Prince Charming,” Piper whispered, leaning over him. “It’s time for Orchid to get ready for work.  Therefore, you need to get up so I can drop you off on my way.”
His eyes flew open and darted around, finally focusing on her face just inches from his.
“In case you forgot, I’m Piper, AKA Orchid, and you’re two first names—Alec Douglas.”
“Yes, I remember who you are and my own name.” He eased up and sat back with his hands on his head. “You wouldn’t happen to have something for a headache around here would you?”
Piper disappeared and came back with two red and blue capsules and a glass of water.
“What, are you rationing?” His nose twisted up and he sounded annoyed.
“No, that’s how much one should take.” She sat in the chair again and pulled her legs up under her. “Okay, now explain this plan of yours to me thoroughly.”
“What plan?”
“Your plan to make me almost rich by the end of the year.”
“Did we discuss that?  Is that why I’m here?  Which is where by the way?” With the glass empty, Alec got up, made his way around the couch, and wandered into the tiny galley kitchen behind it.
“This is my apartment and yes, we discussed it.  You’re here because you threw up in my car last night and weren’t able to tell me where you live.”
Alec shook his head, drank another glass of water, and filled the tumbler again. “It’s very simple really.  Chaney and Brady each put up a month’s pay to be turned over to me once I complete the mission, which is stay with one girl for six months before we deploy again.  That’s where you come in. They picked you at the restaurant yesterday.” He sat once again. “Simple enough, you pretend to be my girlfriend until then and we win an easy fifteen hundred each.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Piper accused.
“Excuse me?” Alec said, scrunching his eyebrows together.
“I said…What? Is? Wrong? With? You?” she repeated slowly as if talking to a child. “Aside from either you can’t hear from too much artillery fire or you have a problem paying attention.”
“There’s nothing wrong with me,” he defended.
“Then why? Why do you need them to choose someone and what’s the problem they can’t believe you’d stay with someone for that long? Are you a man whore?” Piper accused, tapping one foot waiting for his answer.
“I…um…I’ve never stayed with one person for longer than a few dates,” he admitted.
“So you are a man whore,” she concluded.
Thanks for spending a few of your realmantic moments with me, Alec, and Piper today…happy reading!

Seventeen-year-old

Zelene doesn't believe in magic or prophecies.

Author Bio

Mara Valderran has been coming up with stories pretty almost since she could talk, often commandeering her brother's G.I. Joes to play out her fictional tales alongside her Barbies. Once she hit adolescence and realized playing with dolls wasn't cool anymore, she started putting her ideas to paper. And she hasn’t stopped since.

Author Spotlight: Michel Prince

Hey everyone!!  Michel Prince has a new release called Silly Girl!  Check it out!

Are professional sports just children’s games played by oversized kids?

With an all-consuming focus Matthias Jessup has sacrificed his body in pursuit of greatness. But while he’s enjoyed the spoils of being an elite athlete, the physical punishment can only be held at bay for so long. He knows his time is running out and he will have to face his future soon.

Sylvia Kinder is obsessed with Matthias' public image. But now that her fantasy has walked into her life, could it possibly lead to a happy ending? She worries if there's any place for her in his world, much less his heart.

Drawn to each other on a chance meeting, Matthias must look off the court and discover the real world, while Sylvia will have to find the strength of self to not become lost in a world she doesn’t understand.  But those who aren’t ready for a life after the game surround Matthias and are willing to do anything to keep him on the court.

Excerpt:  Pulling on her Columbia jacket Sylvia slid on her backpack then swiped her badge through the time card reader. Taking a deep cleansing breath, she walked back out to see Matthias leaning against the wall scanning his phone. His long index finger was stroking the touch screen and Sylvia’s head filled with thoughts of the finger on her neck finding its way down her body.
This was a mistake.
“You know my tires are practically new…” Sylvia’s voice went higher every time she lied and this was no exception. Her tires were practically bald and couldn’t grip the road if they were covered in honey. “It seems silly to…”
“Prove it,” Matthias’ deep voice challenged her.
“Are you calling me a liar?”
“I think you’re overly cautious and have determined if you drive five miles per hour you’ll have less damage to your body than one night with me.”
Sylvia swallowed the huge lump in her throat and prayed it’d go past her chest without coming back up.
“I told you, I’ll be a gentleman and not touch,” Matthias raised his eyebrow. “What you don’t want me to touch.”
Sylvia licked her lips as she drank in Matthias still leaning against the wall across from her. Even with six feet between them, she felt a current of electricity bouncing back and forth.
“So you gonna play show and tell?”
“Excuse me?” Sylvia tried to find an ounce of moisture in her mouth, but came up dry.
“Your car? Are you going to show me your brand new snow tires or concede you’re afraid of being in an enclosed space with me…alone…on a dark and stormy night?”

Summer Lovin' Blog Hop with Rebel Ink Press

Rebel Ink Press is turning 3 and we're celebrating.  Some of Rebel's author's are sharing their summer love stories, there are titles on sale, and prizes to be won.

I never really had a summer love or even a summer crush.  Lame, I know.  I'm not sure what I was doing when I was younger but apparently is wasn't being recklessly in love.  My characters in Tears in the Rubble did have a summer love though...

Layla Swanson grew up in the lazy, small town of Hollow Oaks and can’t wait to get out.  She has big dreams and big plans in the big city.  Layla has worked hard and her senior year is nearly at its end.  She can’t wait to go away to college.  And she’s one step closer to getting what she wants. Layla isn’t letting anyone get in her way.
Taylor Scott may not be your typical country boy, but he doesn’t mind Hollow Oaks.  His dreams may not be marked on paper and set in stone, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them.
A chance meeting between the two childhood friends may have Layla second guessing her longtime plan. Their rekindled friendship is leading them down a path neither one could have foreseen.  But with Layla leaving for college, many challenges face them, especially when she so stubbornly sticks to her solo plan.

Is Taylor’s love enough to convince Layla to let him in?  Or when everything falls apart, will Layla run away?

Excerpt:
Layla flopped back onto her blanket and closed her eyes the corner of her mouth curling as she replayed Taylor swimming away. The look in his eyes as he had watched her smooth sun screen into her skin caused a tingle in her toes and a quiver in her stomach. Drifting off a bit, Layla thought about how much she'd actually miss her country summer days.
A wet finger trailed its way slowly across Layla’s warm stomach, leaving a trail of water droplets behind. She shivered but didn’t move. The finger continued its journey, going up her side now, tickling as it went.
"Layla," Taylor said finally, his voice quiet but deep, need lingering in the way he said her name.
She rolled to her side on the narrow dock and found Taylor perched on the ladder beside her, his eyes level with hers.
"What?" She asked sleepy voice, contentedness rolling through her body.
Taylor gripped her thin hip in his hand, a few of his fingers slipping beneath the fabric of her bikini bottoms. The pressure of his fingertips was light but the feeling seared its way to her bones. Electric goose bumps spread across her skin and Layla felt the need to cause the same reaction in Taylor. It was a compulsion she couldn’t ignore. Layla reached out her hand, placing it on his neck. From behind her sunglasses she watched him, propping her head on her
hand and scooting closer to him. The corner of his mouth twitched and her heart picked up speed at his subtle reaction to her touch. Layla ran her tongue slowly across her bottom lip and watched his brown eyes follow the motion. His fingers flexed on her hip. A thrill rushed through her knowing she held this small power over him. Feeling sexy for the first time in her eighteen years, she decided dive further into that world.
Layla pulled her sunglasses off and ran a hand through her blonde waves, letting them fall over her shoulder, a few pieces tickling her chest as she breathed deep. She smiled at Taylor and ran her hand up his damp arm, leaning into him slowly. Watching him watch her. Layla’s heart thumped as she brushed her lips against his. Barely, a whisper of a touch. Taylor sucked in a shuddering breath through his teeth and tried to press his lips to hers. Fighting the urge to give in, she parted her lips slightly and brushed against him again. His lips were warm and soft and Layla couldn’t stand it anymore. Her eyes drooped half-closed and she let him lean in, closing the distance between them. Her head spun as Taylor’s hand found its way further under her bathing suit, the tips of his strong fingers digging in as he parted her lips with his own.
