Reckless Radiance Release Day Celebration

Today I have some fun facts from Kate Roth about her new release Reckless Radiance!  I'm pretty excited for this.  She's a close friend of mine and I've been able to see this project come together.  I know you all will love it!

Now for some fun facts!!

This book has had many different incarnations so today I want to share with you some little known facts about the book and its previous versions.
  • ·         Originally Valerie and her best friend, Paige worked as hair stylists not diner waitresses
  • ·         In the first draft, Valerie met Russell at a night club
  • ·         The initial idea for this book came from the Maroon 5 song, “Wake Up Call”
  • ·         In that first concept Russell was a vampire…yeah it was 2007, don’t judge me.
  • ·         Penny’s Pie Diner is my own way of living out my dream of owning a little pie diner.
  • ·         I intentionally don’t address the state in which Valerie lives but the two towns she lives in, Somerset and Greensburg are both names of towns not too far apart in Kentucky.
  • ·         Just like my first novel, The Low Notes, most of this book (it’s original draft, anyway) was written in a hair salon.
  • ·         Two scenes from the book have barely changed since version 1.0, Valerie’s first memory of Gabriel and the confrontation between Valerie and Henry.
  • ·         Though the story is paranormal, I drew from two real-life stories of people I know and cherish and their second chances at true love.

After the loss of her childhood love, Valerie Gilmore runs away from the life she's always known to try to start again. Between her job as a diner waitress and her toxic relationship with the first guy to help her forget her past, Valerie feels more alone than ever before until she meets Russell. He's sweet but strange and Valerie can't help but think he's hiding something. He acts as though he knows her and he seems to be looking past her broken heart, straight into her soul.

Russell has pushed aside the ancient laws of his angel brethren to find Valerie and stay as close to her as possible. He’s forced to contemplate sharing the truth about what he is after a deadly turn of events cause Valerie to run away once more. His feelings for her and a promise he made long ago help him to realize he longs to leave his life as an angel behind for a chance at love.

Reckless Radiance is available on Amazon in ebook format and paperback.

Anniversary Celebration: Lila Munro and Private Pirouette

Today I'd like to welcome Lila Munro and say Happy Anniversary to Private Pirouette!!

Private Pirouette had been sitting for about a year finished before I turned it loose and passed it into the hands of Jenn over at Rebel Ink Press. I had so many irons in the fire it had been shoved to the bottom of the pile more than once. Originally it was slated to be a series, but was ultimately released as a stand-alone. One of the reasons it was shoved to the bottom of the pile so many times was book 2 Private Impropriety wasn’t going so well and I doubted it would ever make it off the drawing board as more than an idea. Not a few days after Private Pirouette debuted, however, reader demands started coming in as to what was going to happen to the other two heroes, Chaney and Brady.
Okay, maybe there would be a book two…then again maybe not. I dragged it out and started working on it, to no avail. It still wasn’t right. Book 2 is Chaney’s story and I had him originally paired with the Jenni, one of Piper’s friends. The problem with Jenni is she’s just too much of a mess. I know right? The queen of conflict and realmantic having issues with someone with too much baggage? Never thought you’d see that one huh? While preparing the promo pack for Private Pirouette, I went through my files and guess what caught my attention? Yes, Private Impropriety hopped out at me. However, I think I’ve since found the problem—a huge one actually which will nearly require a complete and total rewrite, but one I’m willing to deal with if this story can get off the ground. It seems Chaney is better fitted to Piper’s sister Lacey—there is a scene in Private Pirouette when it seems they may hit it off, but then the nearly absent father of Lacey’s baby reappears and puts the brakes on that…I’m thinking that little pipsqueak needs to go. He’s a loser and Chaney would make a great husband and daddy…we shall see…I know this will make my readers happy to finally get their hands on book 2.
In the meantime, Private Pirouette can be yours for a mere $0.99 from Amazon September 16-18…Come watch the dance readers fell in love with and so did Alec…

Piper McGee can smell a set up a mile away. She can smell a Marine even further. Born to a dual-enlisted couple who divorced before she was old enough to remember a single family holiday together and proceeded to redefine the very definition of family through several marriages and even more step-siblings, Piper has made it her life’s promise to herself to never become involved with one of the few and the proud. They’re among the most irresponsible people she knows, leaving destruction in their wake and broken hearts paving the way to their next duty station. And in her opinion, Alec Douglas is just another example, until he pries her heart open along with other parts of her, making her question everything she's ever let herself believe about honor, courage, and commitment.

What does a man do with six month’s down time and no warm body to share his bed? For Sergeant Alec Douglas, contemplating that question led him to fall prey to his two best friend’s plan to find him that very thing. They know Alec has yet to stay with any one person for more than a few dates. They also know a tragedy from his past created the problem and while that haunts him, making it nearly impossible for Alec to trust his heart to anyone, they also know he’s a sucker for a challenge. Will the enticement of a few thousand dollars riding on him breaking his own rule be just the thing to break his cycle? Taking their bet might be profitable, but is winning the money they’ve dangled under Alec’s nose worth losing himself to the girl they’ve picked out for him?

In his quest to get her to say yes to his crazy proposal, he tracks her all over town only to discover the beautiful, long-legged blond isn’t the studious book worm he mistook her for. In fact, she's one of Jacksonville’s finest in the form of Orchid, exotic dancer. Her rejection only spurs him to make sure her dancing days are over and she only performs her private pirouette for him, and only him, for the rest of their lives if he has his way.

Please enjoy an excerpt:
With all the shades drawn in her tiny apartment, it was still relatively dark at nine when Piper left her bed.  After a quick shower, she slipped on her soft worn robe and padded into the kitchen to start her day with her usual Coke Zero and chocolate glazed donut.  Alec was lying on her couch on his back with one foot on the floor, one arm dangling beside him, and his mouth hanging open.  She wanted to make a lot of noise just to irritate him, but then had second thoughts.  As long as he slept, she could sit in the chair beside the tiny couch and stare at how good looking he was.
Too bad he was a Marine.  He was definitely someone she could grow accustomed to looking at.  In the dim light of the room, the auburn stubble running over his jaw only added to his rugged handsomeness.  She caught herself staring at his lips, trying to remember the last time she’d been kissed.  Had it been so long she couldn’t recall?  God, how she needed a life.  Just not at the expense of her goals.
She was putting her empty bottle in the recycle bin sitting near the door when she heard her guest stir and groan.  Served him right. He should be miserable.
“Oh, shit.” He moaned and rubbed his head.
“Good morning, Prince Charming,” Piper whispered, leaning over him. “It’s time for Orchid to get ready for work.  Therefore, you need to get up so I can drop you off on my way.”
His eyes flew open and darted around, finally focusing on her face just inches from his.
“In case you forgot, I’m Piper, AKA Orchid, and you’re two first names—Alec Douglas.”
“Yes, I remember who you are and my own name.” He eased up and sat back with his hands on his head. “You wouldn’t happen to have something for a headache around here would you?”
Piper disappeared and came back with two red and blue capsules and a glass of water.
“What, are you rationing?” His nose twisted up and he sounded annoyed.
“No, that’s how much one should take.” She sat in the chair again and pulled her legs up under her. “Okay, now explain this plan of yours to me thoroughly.”
“What plan?”
“Your plan to make me almost rich by the end of the year.”
“Did we discuss that?  Is that why I’m here?  Which is where by the way?” With the glass empty, Alec got up, made his way around the couch, and wandered into the tiny galley kitchen behind it.
“This is my apartment and yes, we discussed it.  You’re here because you threw up in my car last night and weren’t able to tell me where you live.”
Alec shook his head, drank another glass of water, and filled the tumbler again. “It’s very simple really.  Chaney and Brady each put up a month’s pay to be turned over to me once I complete the mission, which is stay with one girl for six months before we deploy again.  That’s where you come in. They picked you at the restaurant yesterday.” He sat once again. “Simple enough, you pretend to be my girlfriend until then and we win an easy fifteen hundred each.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Piper accused.
“Excuse me?” Alec said, scrunching his eyebrows together.
“I said…What? Is? Wrong? With? You?” she repeated slowly as if talking to a child. “Aside from either you can’t hear from too much artillery fire or you have a problem paying attention.”
“There’s nothing wrong with me,” he defended.
“Then why? Why do you need them to choose someone and what’s the problem they can’t believe you’d stay with someone for that long? Are you a man whore?” Piper accused, tapping one foot waiting for his answer.
“I…um…I’ve never stayed with one person for longer than a few dates,” he admitted.
“So you are a man whore,” she concluded.
Thanks for spending a few of your realmantic moments with me, Alec, and Piper today…happy reading!

Summer Lovin' Blog Hop with Rebel Ink Press

Rebel Ink Press is turning 3 and we're celebrating.  Some of Rebel's author's are sharing their summer love stories, there are titles on sale, and prizes to be won.

I never really had a summer love or even a summer crush.  Lame, I know.  I'm not sure what I was doing when I was younger but apparently is wasn't being recklessly in love.  My characters in Tears in the Rubble did have a summer love though...

Layla Swanson grew up in the lazy, small town of Hollow Oaks and can’t wait to get out.  She has big dreams and big plans in the big city.  Layla has worked hard and her senior year is nearly at its end.  She can’t wait to go away to college.  And she’s one step closer to getting what she wants. Layla isn’t letting anyone get in her way.
Taylor Scott may not be your typical country boy, but he doesn’t mind Hollow Oaks.  His dreams may not be marked on paper and set in stone, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them.
A chance meeting between the two childhood friends may have Layla second guessing her longtime plan. Their rekindled friendship is leading them down a path neither one could have foreseen.  But with Layla leaving for college, many challenges face them, especially when she so stubbornly sticks to her solo plan.

Is Taylor’s love enough to convince Layla to let him in?  Or when everything falls apart, will Layla run away?

Excerpt:
Layla flopped back onto her blanket and closed her eyes the corner of her mouth curling as she replayed Taylor swimming away. The look in his eyes as he had watched her smooth sun screen into her skin caused a tingle in her toes and a quiver in her stomach. Drifting off a bit, Layla thought about how much she'd actually miss her country summer days.
A wet finger trailed its way slowly across Layla’s warm stomach, leaving a trail of water droplets behind. She shivered but didn’t move. The finger continued its journey, going up her side now, tickling as it went.
"Layla," Taylor said finally, his voice quiet but deep, need lingering in the way he said her name.
She rolled to her side on the narrow dock and found Taylor perched on the ladder beside her, his eyes level with hers.
"What?" She asked sleepy voice, contentedness rolling through her body.
Taylor gripped her thin hip in his hand, a few of his fingers slipping beneath the fabric of her bikini bottoms. The pressure of his fingertips was light but the feeling seared its way to her bones. Electric goose bumps spread across her skin and Layla felt the need to cause the same reaction in Taylor. It was a compulsion she couldn’t ignore. Layla reached out her hand, placing it on his neck. From behind her sunglasses she watched him, propping her head on her
hand and scooting closer to him. The corner of his mouth twitched and her heart picked up speed at his subtle reaction to her touch. Layla ran her tongue slowly across her bottom lip and watched his brown eyes follow the motion. His fingers flexed on her hip. A thrill rushed through her knowing she held this small power over him. Feeling sexy for the first time in her eighteen years, she decided dive further into that world.
Layla pulled her sunglasses off and ran a hand through her blonde waves, letting them fall over her shoulder, a few pieces tickling her chest as she breathed deep. She smiled at Taylor and ran her hand up his damp arm, leaning into him slowly. Watching him watch her. Layla’s heart thumped as she brushed her lips against his. Barely, a whisper of a touch. Taylor sucked in a shuddering breath through his teeth and tried to press his lips to hers. Fighting the urge to give in, she parted her lips slightly and brushed against him again. His lips were warm and soft and Layla couldn’t stand it anymore. Her eyes drooped half-closed and she let him lean in, closing the distance between them. Her head spun as Taylor’s hand found its way further under her bathing suit, the tips of his strong fingers digging in as he parted her lips with his own.

Tears in the Rubble is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and ARe.

Hushed Teaser #1

Here a little bit from my current WIP (Hushed)...
*unedited and subject to change*

Tess zipped her stuffed suit case and pulled it off of her bed. It hit the floor with a thump and she sighed. Unease prickled her skin. How had she let Megan talk her into this?
“This is a bad idea,” she called through their apartment as she began dragging her luggage to the front door. Even in protest she was doing what her best friend and roommate had convinced her to do.
“Get over it, Tess. It’s spring break. Ten days at the beach! How could it not be fine?” Megan came into their living room with her hands on her hips.
Tess rolled her eyes. Yes, it was spring break. Yes, ten days at the beach sounded amazing. She loved the beach. What made this a bad idea was that this trip was planned when she and Jason were still a couple. They were going to his parent’s beach house. The whole group would be there and it would be mostly couples. Tess groaned internally as she frowned at her friend.
“I’m not riding in a car with him.” Tess stomped her foot. Megan lowered her dark gaze and raised an eyebrow. “What?” Tess shrieked.
“Of course you won’t ride with him. You’ll ride with me and Matt. Oooh, did you know Carter is bringing his new man?” Megan waggled her dark eyebrows grinning from ear to ear. It was a big deal that their friend Carter had found someone on campus worth dating. He was too picky for his own good.
“Yes, he told me,” Tess sighed. Megan sneered at her lack of enthusiasm and disappeared down the hall.
“You could at least sound happy for him,” Megan called from her bedroom.
Tess frowned and pouted as she flopped onto the couch. Just as she settled into the cushions Megan’s boyfriend, Matt, burst through the door.
“Come on, baby! The beach awaits!” Matt tripped over Tess’ bag and he caught himself on the arm of the couch. A laugh slipped from her as he pushed his auburn hair back from his forehead. Matt glared at the offending bag and then turned his anger on Tess.
“Sorry,” she muttered with a shrug.

Happy Anniversary to The Low Notes...

Today Kate Roth is stopping by to celebrate the one year anniversary of her debut novel The Low Notes.  I'd also like to congratulate her on her recent contract with Rebel Ink Press for her novel Reckless Radiance.  Congrats and Happy Anniversary Kate!!  Now see what all the fuss is about...

It’s been one year since The Low Notes was released and I still feel like I’m living a dream! I’ve received a ton of awesome reviews for the book and now with my second novel on the horizon it is very clear to me that this job is one I want to do for the rest of my life. Check out what The Low Notes is all about and an excerpt from the novel.

When a chance meeting between high school teacher Kevin Reed and singer Nina Jordan ignites an instant spark, they must decide if it's more important to follow your heart or follow the rules.
After caring for his dying father, Kevin Reed, returns to his hometown of Wexley Falls, bereaved, unemployed and exhausted at the thought of starting a new life. After a failed blind date, Kevin meets young singer Nina Jordan who takes his breath away with the sound of her voice. The connection is instantaneous and mutual on their first date, but both are crestfallen when they discover days later, to their horror, Nina is Kevin's student at the local high school.
Deciphering between notions of love and lust, fate and coincidence, Kevin and Nina find themselves unable to turn their backs on what they can't deny is a once in a lifetime feeling. Told from both perspectives, The Low Notes explores a love that feels right even though it seems wrong.

Excerpt:
Nina stopped by her locker and grabbed one of seven new notebooks she bought for herself the day before. She checked her makeup in the mirror that hung inside the blue metal door. She stared into her own eyes and imagined they were Kevin’s. She couldn’t control her thoughts. Kevin. Kevin, the idiot. Kevin Reed. She snapped herself out of her trance and got back to the task at hand.
She smoothed out her white button-down top with her hands and slammed the locker closed. Glancing at her schedule, she looked only at the room number, B100.
She found B100 and entered the opened door. Students were still jockeying for seats and the class was a little out of order at the moment. She found a seat near the back and started arranging her desk all while wondering where the teacher was. The bell rang just as she heard his voice.
“Sorry I'm late. I'm so glad to have seniors first thing in the morning. You guys can handle me being late. I have a feeling Freshman English will be the death of me. Uh, I realize I'm not Mrs. Oliver. You might have heard she's out on maternity leave and I'm taking over. I'm Mr. Reed,” he said, turning his back to the class, writing his name on the dry erase board.
The sting in her stomach was back but it felt more like a fireball now. Her mind was blank, her mouth gaping as she stared at his back for another moment, praying he wouldn't turn around. She didn't have time to run. She didn't have time to think. In what seemed like slow motion, Kevin turned to face the class with a beaming smile and tears started to well up in Nina's eyes.

You can purchase The Low Notes on Amazon, Barnes & NobleNook and All Romance E-books! And from May 17th to May 19th the e-book version will be on sale for just 99 cents! Anniversary Teaser #2...

I'm back today with another teaser from Tears in the Rubble...

Taylor reached across the cab of his brother’s truck and hit the horn again. Jackson glared at him and sighed.
"What's taking her so long? We’re going to be late," Taylor whined impatiently.
"Girls always take a long time," Jackson said as he rolled his eyes and leaned his head back against the headrest.
"Layla’s not a girl," he shot back. Next to him Jackson snorted. "What? She’s just--Layla."
Through narrowed eyes, Taylor glared at his brother until movement on the porch caught his attention. He looked just in time to see Layla bounding down the wooden steps. Taylor swallowed thickly and from the corner of his eye he saw Jackson’s head jerk to the left. Both boys watched as her green cotton sundress moved around her legs, her pale blond hair streaming behind her, her pink lips split into a grin.
"Oh… shit," Taylor said under his breath. Layla Swanson is hot was Taylor’s first thought. His second thought was when had that happened?
They'd been best friends for most of their lives. Taylor wasn’t sure how he had missed the transformation from bossy tomboy to whatever it was Layla had become. He'd seen her yesterday and yet he could swear she looked different. Beside him his brother was nodding in agreement. Taylor shot him another glare which only earned him another snort from Jackson.
"Layla Swanson’s all grown up," Jackson whispered, drawing out the words just as she pulled the passenger side door open, ducking the swat at the back of his head.
"Morning boys," she called cheerfully, ignoring their fighting. When Taylor didn’t respond because he was too busy staring, she pushed on his shoulder playfully. "What, do I look bad?"
She glanced down at her dress and ran a hand over her hair before biting down on her full, glossy bottom lip and looking back up at him. He continued to stare helplessly as her lip slowly popped out from between her white teeth. Shaking himself, Taylor cleared his throat trying to think of a response, something to smooth over the awkward moment. Maybe she hadn’t noticed he was staring. He hoped so anyway.
"No," he trailed off. Really smooth, Taylor cursed himself silently.
He climbed out of the truck and let her slide into the middle seat before he got back in. Over her shoulder, Jackson caught Taylor’s eye and raised an eyebrow questioningly.

Guest Author Lila Munro

Today I'd like to welcome a fellow Rebel, Lila Munro.  Lila is also a part of the Rebel Elite team and she's celebrating a new release with us.  I'll let Lila tell us a little about herself, her works, and her newest release...

I’m From Slower Lower…Where?

First, I’d like to thank Britni for turning her blog space over to me today. Your kindness in hosting me today is most appreciated. And thank you to her fans and readers for dropping by to spend a few minutes with me.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lila Munro, multi-faceted romance author. I’m probably most known for my steamy BDSM and ménage pieces, but what most people probably haven’t picked up on yet is that my career didn’t begin there. It actually began with more sensual, contemporary roots.
My first two works, The Executive Officer’s Wife and Bound by Trust, were both contemporary military reads and had been out some weeks when I made the decision to pull A Slower, Lower Love—which was under contract at the time but not officially published—and revise it based on what I had learned from my editor at the time. I knew based on what I’d learned it needed some hard core work in order to be truly ready for the viewing public. I also knew that eventually the other two works would be released and come back to me and they would undergo the revisions they so desperately needed as well. The Executive Officer’s Wife received its treatment last summer and Bound by Trust will later this year.
Once I was done picking apart A Slower, Lower Love I turned it over to the capable hands of the editing staff at Rebel Ink press and prepared to find out what else I was sure I knew but really didn’t. When I received word from E they were finished with it and we needed to talk, well, let me tell you my heart stopped. But, I was pleasantly surprised to learn the thing we needed to discuss was turning A Slower, Lower Love into a series. I agreed to take on this task and thus I was forever the incidental series writer. Who knew?
A Slower, Lower Love started the rounds on the review circuit and I began writing book two, A Slower, Lower Life. About mid-way through that project, the reviews began pouring in…and they weren’t half bad, but a recurring criticism was that the romance was neither slower nor lower.
Well, of course it wasn’t…that’s not at all what slower, lower means. And although the meaning of that phrase is referenced more than once in both works, somehow it escaped notice.
My husband is from Sussex County Delaware, which is the southern most of the three counties in Delaware and is part of the peninsula comprised of the tips of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. It’s beautiful country. Lazy, rolling, green. Farmland and colonial homes grace the landscape…and when you ask someone from that part of the country where they’re from the answer is almost always, “I’m from slower lower.”
You see, slower lower is a description, it just doesn’t apply to the couples’ love affairs in the Slower, Lower series. It describes a way of life, a place, and the people who live there. Life in slower lower is marked by Sussex County Standard Time. No one rushes, everyone stops to appreciate, people breathe and notice what’s on the air…freshly turned soil, the Nanticoke River, the ocean. Pizza cooking at Grottos. People use their front porches and they say y’all.
So, don’t be shocked when you read any or all of the books in this series, the latest of which released February 17, A Slower, Lower Leap, and the romance is smoking because the reviewers were right in one thing…love on the eastern shore is definitely not slow.

When you’re the last man standing…

Not only was Logan Delaney the last of his siblings to remain unmarried and unsettled, his entire family believed he’d never find a wife. The baby of eight, he’s been dubbed an irresponsible player and told he’ll never amount to a hill of beans. And at one time, Logan may have been okay with those descriptions, but no more. On a quest to prove his worth, he’s spent the entire summer learning the family business, staying in at night, and saving his money. And if his family would stop meddling in his affairs and trying to dictate who he should and shouldn’t be seeing, he might just show them he’s found the one, Lizzy Jenkins.

And have a bad reputation to blame…

Elizabeth Jenkins had always known Logan Delaney existed, but he’d never so much as turned one glance her way until she handed him his butt on a silver platter in three sentences or less over the phone. After that it seemed at every turn there he was and the more she resisted the heat building between them, the bigger the fire got. Until his family interfered. And why wouldn’t they? Between Logan’s legacy and her baggage, they were a disaster in the making.

Can you be trusted with a fragile heart?

But Logan doesn’t run when he finds out about Colby. In fact, he embraces Lizzy’s special needs son and defies the advice of everyone urging him to leave Lizzy alone. But after one moment of weakness, Logan finds himself knee deep in a marriage complete with the little boy whose father bailed before his birth and Lizzy’s grandfather, who needs constant care as well.  Then there's the man who just might be the demise of it all.

Excerpt:

With a mixture of emotions swirling through her, Lizzy watched the same storm overtake Logan’s features which was brewing inside her. A veritable lightning bolt passed between them as soon as he’d touched her. She knew she’d always been attracted to Logan, but the instant heat still scalding her skin from his fingers left her unsettled. It was but a mere couple of hours prior she was trying to convince herself she could do with some sort of quickie sexual gratification, although she’d admitted it could never be with Logan, and now she wanted nothing more and the door to her emotions was wide open leaving her vulnerable and believing maybe they could have both. And just as she was trying to tell herself to stop trusting the lies her deprived body was concocting, Logan decided to try to convince her he might be interested in more as well.

Where was Logan the player and who was the imposter sitting across the table from her who could probably talk her right into his bed with one sentence or less and keep her coming back heartbreak on the horizon or not?

As her pulse slowed a bit, she turned to look at Colby and reminded herself why she couldn’t be playing horizontal Twister with anyone let alone Logan. And she sure couldn’t go letting Colby think there was a reason to get too comfortable around him. He seemed to like Logan and the Delaney herd of kids and she didn’t want him getting his feelings hurt because she couldn’t control her hormonal urges. What if she made the mistake of screwing Logan’s brains out, things didn’t work out, and that made it awkward to be coming around anymore? This was the first time anyone had really taken them in and welcomed them unconditionally and she didn’t want to rob Colby of it.

Bio:

New Release Celebration: Donna Steele

Donna Steele has stopped by today to tell us a little about her newest release...

The War

Vietnam was my war. We didn't talk about it around the Sunday lunch table with the relatives like we always had for WWII. I grew up with those stories from my aunts and uncles, but mine was different. John Wayne didn't glorify mine and people were angry and confused about the whole thing.

We had Kent State and protests and love-ins.  Hair, Peter, Paul and Mary, and "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield. I knew people that went to Canada and more that thought about it.

We had the draft lottery and boys with lower numbers were scooped up and sent to training camp. I had no brothers, so I was slightly removed from the process, but I wasn't sure I'd be allowed to go away to school after Kent State.

I thought I'd forgotten about it, but then Rebel Ink asked for short stories involving men in uniform. And there was Welcome Home – already written in my head.  The people aren't specific. I didn't know them in real life. But I knew them and I remember how it was.

A war doesn't have to be "popular" for the men and women that answer the call to be appreciated and thanked. I think we learned our lesson on that. I hope so.

Bobby's back from Vietnam and finds the world has changed.
"I didn't care if I was fighting communists or socialists or Martians. I just wanted to live and come home." Why can't his old friends let go and understand how he feels?
Can Katie help bring him all the way home?

You can purchase Welcome Home at Amazon.

Thanks for stopping by today Donna!

Author Interview: Eden Glenn

I'm excited to welcome Eden Glenn today.  She also writes for Rebel Ink Press and is a part of the Rebel Elite team.  I've asked her a few questions and she's telling us about her new release.

1: Do you have anything in your wardrobe you can’t live without?  (shirt, shoes, hat, scarf, jewelry, anything you wear all the time)

The standing joke is the volume of my wardrobe. In my defense I need formal clothes for balls and parties. I need business dress, business semi casual, business casual. I need club clothes for nights out. I need casual clothes for just hanging around. I need barn clothes for horsing around.

My clothes broke the closet close bar out of the wall.  LOL.

I have some special rings that I wear all the time.

The only thing that is second to the volume of my clothes is the volume of my shoes. LOL. Boots: Fashion, Horse Riding, and Motorcycle. Shoes with dresses, shoes for pants, tennis shoes for hanging around and for the gym, play shoes, sandles. On and on LOL

2: Do you like doing research?  Or do you write what you know? I do extensive research. I research careers, life styles, subject matter and the eroticism. LOL. Lots and Lots of research. I love it.

3: Describe your writing style… hum. Exciting, Erotic, with a splash of snark

4: What are you working on now? I am currently working on finishing final edits for vol 3 of The Amethyst Desire Collection, Its called “Phoenix Reborn”. I’m outlining and plotting vol 4 “Shifter’s SOMETHING idk WHAT”. Titles come hard for me. I haven’t quite nailed the title yet. I’m working on edits for a story to follow Dar’kind Promises. At the moment it is called “Dragons Unbound”

5: Do you have or have you ever had a mentor? Yes, my critique group in FL named Ink Plots. Shelby Reed, Abigail Sharp, my critique partner Charlee Allden and others were in that group. Shelby, Abigail and Charlee and I spent many days writing together and discussing the business. I would say these women mentored me.

6: Do you find it hard to balance your daily routine with writing? I do find myself so immersed in writing that it is hard to accomplish other ‘important’ things.

7: What’s your biggest vice?  Something you’re obsessed with but probably shouldn’t be… Diet Coke

8: If you could step out of your element and try something new what would it be? Lol. I constantly step out of my element. I live outside my element. In Feb, 2012 I decided I wanted to learn to drive a motorcycle. I’ve been riding my Vulcan 750 since April. My first ride on it was bringing it home 3 hours from North Carolina. I have my motorcycle license. I’ve put about 5,000 miles on Ta’Lula this summer.

9: How do you view the editing process?
Editing is where the magic happens

10: If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would love to go to Scotland, New Zeland, Germany, Australia, The Grand Canyon, Mackinaw Island, Chincoteague Island. I could keep going.

Last but not least tell us where we can find more about you and your works…

Come visit my web. www.edenglenn.com You’ll find all the links to my various FB; Twitter; Amazon page etc.

From the Rubble: The First Chapter of the Last Chapter

Just in case your curious...

Chapter One
April

Layla clutched the grayed wood in her hands so tightly her knuckles went white.  All she could do was stare at the worn wood and the initials carved in it as moments ticked slowly by.  She wasn’t sure how much time had passed before she willed her body to stand.  Seconds?  Minutes?  Still stunned and unsure, she walked mechanically to the counter and grabbed her phone.  Pursing her lips, she thought hard about her next step. Whatever she did could change things forever. For better or worse she wasn’t sure.  Excitement and curiosity ran through her and Layla tossed the phone back on the counter and rushed to her front door.  Praying she wasn’t too late she took the steps of her loft two at a time, landing on the sidewalk breathless and barefoot.  Craning her neck, she looked left then right but there was no Taylor in sight.  What was she going to say anyway?  It was probably for the best.  Tucking her blonde hair behind her ear, she headed back inside reminding herself his gift could mean nothing.  It could simply be a peace offering.  A show of his acceptance of their situation.  Layla knew it could merely be Taylor’s way of saying that he was trying to make the best of what had happened between them.

Layla wasn’t getting her hopes up.  She knew the romantic part of their relationship was over, but she couldn’t help the quickening pace of her heart when she thought about what she wanted that piece of old wood to mean.  What it could mean.  If she hadn’t screwed up and made decisions that weren’t hers to make.  The future that could’ve been played out in Layla’s mind and it was a whole relationship, a whole history that never existed because she’d hidden something from Taylor.  Something big.  Something she could never take back.  What could have been was a future she’d never know.
Layla walked down the hall, her footsteps light, and peeked into Lexi’s room before she headed to her own.  Her daughter slept peacefully, her brown curls splayed out on her pillow.  With a sad smile, Layla slipped the wooden relic between some sheets piled on the top shelf of her closet.  Out of sight, out of mind.

****

Taylor sat in his car tapping the steering wheel nervously.  The second he'd left the white box in Layla’s hands and headed down the steps of her loft apartment, he’d wanted to sprint back and take it from her.  It was a stupid gesture and he wasn’t even sure what he meant by it.  After screaming at Layla in her shop, he’d gone home and paced his small apartment.  It had felt good to get his anger out.  It seemed to clear his head a bit and with his thoughts less jumbled, he needed a way to show Layla he was sorry and that he wanted to move forward.  Forward to where he wasn’t sure, but forward none the less.  So he’d dug through his still unpacked boxes and found the only thing he knew could say what he needed to.  Sighing, he rested his head on the steering wheel.  In retrospect, maybe giving her the wooden piece had said too much.
The past few weeks had been a roller coaster for him.  His father’s death, finding out he had a daughter, and seeing the girl he’d been sure was “the one” for the first time in years.  Taylor had the feeling he wasn’t any closer to getting off the ride.  He only knew now that his anger had started to clear, it left him with a mess of other emotions to work through.  He had to learn how to be a father and fast.  Then there was the ever present sizzle he still felt whenever Layla was near.  Taylor wasn’t sure he'd ever get past what she'd done but he had the inkling his love for her was bigger than her lie.

Reviews, reviews, reviews...why are they important?

Tuesdays are usually reserved for a Top Ten list of some sort, but I haven't done one in a while, and I actually tried to make this topic into a top ten list.  I just couldn't do it.

With my next book coming out soon I've been thinking a lot about marketing.  I know a lot of authors don't pay attention to reviews, good or bad.  They don't want to see what people have to say.  They trust their editors and they'd rather keep doing what they do and loving it.  This is a hard business to be in and you definitely have to have thick skin.  I know that not everyone will like what I write, and I'm okay with that because for every person that doesn't there is a person that does.  That brings me to why you should leave a review if you enjoy indie authors or authors from smaller publishers...

1. Because I want you to...pretty simple, right?

2. Leaving a review on Amazon or Barnes & Nobles (or any other site for that matter) helps other readers find our books.

3. For every negative review there could be a positive review.  People are less likely to say the good things but people almost always share their negative thoughts.  Help change that...

4. I like to know what people think.  Other authors do too.

5. Good reviews can bump rankings higher on vendor's sites.

6. We can use reviews to improve.

7. It gives you a chance to express the journey you went through while reading.  You get to be the writer for once.

I almost made it to ten, but not quite.  Hey, I tried!  Leaving a review really does help us and we appreciate it.

The One and Only...Nina Jordan

Hey everyone!  My friend and fellow Rebel, Kate Roth, is dropping by with one of the characters from her debut novel, The Low Notes.  Nina Jordan is going to answer a few questions for us.  Thanks Kate and Nina!

1.      So Nina, I understand you’re in high school.  What’s that like?  What grade are you in?
I’m a senior, finally free. High school has been okay but I’m definitely ready to spread my wings a little bit.

2.      Is there anything you are looking forward to this year?  Dances?  Football games?
The senior choir concert is the only major thing I’m looking forward to. It’ll be the first time I perform at school. I guess prom is on the list but I’m still not sure about it.

3.      Do you have any cute teachers?  When I was younger all my teachers were older ladies.
Um, yeah I guess. There’s one guy…I mean teacher. He’s sort of good looking.

4.      I understand you have a passion for music.  Tell me about that.  Who are some of your favorites?
Music is my life! I love to sing and play piano. I can play a little guitar too but I’m rusty. I love everything from old standard singers like Frank Sinatra and Nina Simone to Adele and Maroon 5. I can even get down with some 1980’s rock if I’m feeling fun.

5.      Is your family supportive of your love of music?
Sure, I think. My dad travels for work so he can’t always make it to performances but he’s always been willing to pay for lessons. He bought me the most beautiful piano for my twelfth birthday.

6.      Are you dating anyone?
No. Um, well…it’s complicated. I mean, no. No I’m not.

7.      What are your college plans?  Are you sticking around Wexley Falls?
The Big Apple is calling my name. I’m outta here…leaving it all behind.

8.      What’s the one thing in your wardrobe you can’t live without?
I have a pretty awesome dress collection that I’d be sad to lose. Most are fancy and impractical but I can’t resist a great dress.

9.      What do you think of all of these reality shows?  I know most girls your age are obsessed.
Not really my thing. I haven’t had a lot of time to watch TV lately. I guess I’m a little distracted…with school and all.

10.  Okay, last one.  We’ll make it a fun one.  What’s your go to snack?  The one thing that makes you feel better or just always sounds good.
It’s not so much a snack but I love breakfast foods. Pancakes are my favorite. So yummy!

Thanks again for stopping by!
